Dependence of photoinduced bending behavior of diarylethene crystals on irradiation wavelength of ultraviolet light.
The dependence of the photoinduced bending behavior of diarylethene crystals on the ultraviolet light irradiation wavelength was investigated. When irradiated with 365 nm light, a crystal of 1,2-bis(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-thiazolyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) bends toward the incident light. On the other hand, when irradiated with 380 nm light, the crystal of 1a first bends away from the light sour...

The photo-generated closed-ring isomer of bis(5-methyl-2-phenylthiazoyl)perfluorocyclopentene shows cytotoxicity to Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells through a caspase cascade and induces apoptosis of cells.
متن کاملLight-driven bending of diarylethene mixed crystals.
Mixed crystals composed of 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) and 1,2-bis(5-methyl-2-(p-methoxyphenyl)-4-thiazolyl)perfluorocyclopentene (2a) were prepared, and their photochromic as well as light-driven bending performance was studied to reveal how shape changes of individual molecules cause the bending response. 1a and 2a molecules, having similar geomet...
متن کاملPhotoreversible current ON/OFF switching by the photoinduced bending of gold-coated diarylethene crystals.
Gold-coated diarylethene crystals exhibited photoreversible bending upon alternating irradiation with ultraviolet (UV) and visible light. The bending behavior can be well explained by the extended bimetal model, which we propose here. Moreover, we have demonstrated that it can be used as an actual electrical circuit photoswitch.
متن کاملPhotoinduced micropatterning by polymorphic crystallization of a photochromic diarylethene in a polymer film.
A photochromic diarylethene was found to crystallize rapidly from the amorphous state in poly(methyl methacrylate) by heating at 130 degrees C. The diarylethene amorphous film was successfully patterned to form microcrystals upon ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation through a photomask, showing a high resolution as good as approximately 4 microm under optimal conditions.
